Battlefield 1: In the Name of the Tsar expansion adds a huge variety of locations for players to wage war on, including the mountainous Lupkow Pass. The map’s snow-covered hills and vertical nature make it among the DLC’s most unique terrains, offering up new gameplay strategies and possibilities for players to discover. This guide, along with some quick tips, will tell you all you need to know to find success on the Lupkow Pass battlefield.

Lupkow Pass Map Overview

This map sees the Russian and Austro-Hungarian armies clashing amidst the snowy hillsides and ravines of the Carpathian Mountains on the eastern front. Lupkow Pass is an infantry-focused map which also supports calvary and aerial gameplay. A railroad splits the map down the middle between points F and D, which allows for the armored train behemoth to influence the two capture points heavily when playing on the Conquest game mode.

Spawn Information

Russian army players spawn west in the mountains near the destroyed castle, while the Austro-Hungarian forces spawn to the east in the forest.

Key Features and General Tips

Want to learn more about the map’s features and how to utilize them to your advantage? Here are some helpful tips to help you achieve victory.

Bring in the Calvary

Due to the lack of ground vehicles, players looking to reach their destination faster or simply wanting to wade into a control point and wreak havoc will want to make use of cavalry. “In the Name of the Tsar” adds a cavalry lance for players to use while riding on horseback, and it’s great for running down and skewering enemies running along the map’s mountain trails.

Think Vertically

Lupkow Pass is a vertical map, sporting numerous hilltops and ridges that players can occupy to look down on on the rest of the battlefield. That’s good news for players who like to claim the high ground, but for those at the bottom of the hill it means being extra aware of your surroundings. If you are getting shot and you’re not sure where from, looking up might provide an answer.

Control The Center

This advice applies to nearly every Battlefield 1 map, but it’s doubly important on Lupkow Pass: control the center of the map. Lupkow Pass is a large map, but the capture points in the center are all relatively close to one another, with natural trails linking them together. These points also sit up much higher than the rest of the map, giving the team that controls them a better vantage of the battlefield.

Class Tips

As is the case with every map, each class will have areas and tasks they excel at and others that they will want to avoid. Make sure you’re prepared with these class-specific tips.

Assault

Rather than storm the various mountaintops of Lupkow Pass head on, assault players will want to stick to the ravines and trails to be most effective. The castle ruins are also a great spot for assault players to shine, as it provides plenty of cover from enemies outside the walls while being the perfect place for shotguns and close-ranged assault weapons.

Medic

Lupkow Pass’s central area is where the heaviest fighting is found, and it’s there that medics will want to be. The Medic’s rifles are perfect for mid-range combat, and that’s the name of the game when it comes to battling along the trails that connect the map’s central capture points. Be on the lookout for enemy bombers, and if your squad gets wiped out, be ready to do some mass revives to get your team back in the action as soon as possible.

Support

Support players will want to bring their mortar gadget along for battles on Lupkow Pass. The map is largely situated in a forest, which means there are few buildings for enemy players to hide in once the mortars start flying.

Scout

Thanks to Lupkow Pass’s numerous mountaintops, snipers will want to claim a vantage point that allows for them to look down upon unsuspecting enemies. That means the center of the map is where scouts will want to call home, as it gives them vision of most of the other capture points. Long stretches of trail frequently used by players are also a great place to score some long-range kills as players attempt to move around the battlefield around the outskirts of the map.
