We're up to 60+ unique animations for ability activation. We're trying to cover as many potential actions as possible, but if you have any specific animations that you'd like to see included in the game, this is a good place to suggest them.
Few guidelines to bear in mind:
Animations are just the way the character moves. They don't contain particle effects. Those are separate and can be combined with animations as you'd like. There's also no weapon directly involved. Weapons are interchangeable, of course, so it's up to the player to match their weapons of choice to their animations if they wish. In other words, you can throw a gun, slash with a guitar, or "shoot" a katana if you want.
Character limitations. Because of the shape and size of the character, some animations are easier to portray than others. The characters have short arms (can't reach one another), no knees (although the motion can be somewhat simulated), and no fingers.
Somewhat generic actions that can be applied to multiple abilities are encouraged, but specific animations that you think might be really fun are welcome as well.
Below you will find a list of all of the animations we already have in the game...
How about an animation where the character licks their hand and then runs it over their hair? I was thinking of, for example, the cat preening itself, but I guess that's more of an idle animation, rather than an ability activation animation. But it could be like a cool guy making sure his hair is perfect before doing something cool to woo the girl. Not sure if the arms would be long enough for that though.
My oldest son has taken to the Indiana Jones series, so it has been my immense pleasure to introduce him to the movies ;). On this train of thought, even though it wasn't a weapon in the movie, how about utilizing the "staff and light" (where the light extends out of the staff and eventually burns it's way to the target but aiming at the ground). This might be similar to the scene where they discover the exact location of the Ark in the first movie.
Anyways, always loved that part of the movie. Ciao!
Hey guys, great list today. There's some interesting sounding animations on there. As for suggestions, I may have another one… but it might need some work. I was hoping for a snapping animation, but it would be kind of strange without fingers. Then I thought a clapping/praying animation would be good, so I'm wondering what exactly the pray and cast animation you guys listed looks like (I also recall that the arms can't reach each other, so I'm guessing clapping the hands together is also impossible).
Just to be clear, I am trying to suggest an animation that recalls some kind of transmutation from Fullmetal Alchemist. So I also thought it could be the part where they kneel on the ground and put their hands against the ground (activating the transmutation circle). It would be really cool if the circle appeared as part of the animation too! Would anything of this nature be possible? Also if there's any other fans out there any more ideas would be appreciated.
@GreenDango: The summoning circle would certainly be possible. I think a few animations could work for FMA type moves. The "pray" and cast is certainly one of them (the character kneels and bows its head before standing and raising an arm).
@Bloodseeker: I think a slap and palm-strike animations should be possible!
Idle Animation suggestions: Idle 1: Macarena Idle 2: Electric Slide Idle 3: Russian Polka (i.e. http://youtu.be/rNXKuwhhC1c ... see around 1:40 time mark)
Rude/Taunt Gestures: Rude 1: Left arm crossed over out in front of the chest - grabbing right arm just above the elbow, right arm thrust up into air with fist Rude 2: Neener neener face (moose antler gesture with eyes closed and giving raspberry) Rude 3: Full Moon
Combat Gestures: Pose 1: Gladiator (sword posted into the air, point skyward or at an arc over the head) Pose 2: Scoundral (crouched, skulking, with weapon menacingly concealed or half drawn) Pose 3: Hand Shake Toss (sheathes weapon, approaches with outstretched open palm, grabs opponent and throws it over his head into the ground -- think "Bam Bam" from the Flintstones) Pose 4: Shadow Strike (character drops into his/her own shadow... shadow slithers over to enemy and strikes enemy shadow, doing real damage) Pose 5: Babe Ruth (character calls his shot "Over the Wall" with pointed finger and winds up for a baseball swing at the enemy) Pose 6: Wall Jump (acrobatic characters can attack from a double height by using vertical surfaces to launch themselves off of, perhaps including the enemy itself or a nearby character/enemy) Pose 7: Sick 'Em! (Character turns sideways, facing the screen, outsretched arm pointing to the enemy - commanding a companion animal/creature/spell-effect to rush the enemy)
Potion Use - multiple random animations each time you quaff one down Quaff 1: pop, chug, belch, surprised sideways look and hand over the mouth Quaff 2: pop, sniff, pinky out, drink daintily, and retch Quaff 3: pop, sip, hiccup followed by drunken stumble and short lived pink bubbles around the head Quaff 4: pop, FWOOSH, blinking eyes (complete with blown backward hair particle effects and blackened face) Quaff 5: pop, chug, toss cookies, instant recovery with glowing aura and strong arm pose (think Popeye)
