Songbringer is a Sci-Fi Zelda-Like with Never-Ending Adventure

What if Zelda never had to end? That’s the idea behind Songbringer, an action-adventure through procedurally-generated worlds filled with dungeons to explore, quests to complete, and puzzles to solve — and it’s all wrapped up in some gorgeous 2D visuals, and haunting music that brings its sci-fi setting to life.

You’re Roq Epimetheos, party-man and rocker extraordinaire, hopping from planet to planet in search of adventure (and a place to shake the cops for a while.) Each stop marks the start of a new quest on a new map with nine dungeons to explore, ranging from puzzle-filled mental challenges to tough combat gauntlets filled with deadly foes. Every world is generated by a six-letter seed, and sharing that seed means that you can challenge your friends to beat your times and completion percentages.

Digging through the ruins nets you new relics and weapons, which you can take back to your ship in order to craft new abilities including wild feats like turning into a fireball. There are no experience points, so your progress is all about crushing your foes and digging up lost technology. How you complete your quest is entirely up to you — head in any direction, and tackle the challenges in any way you want. You don’t even have to grab the sword! (It is a pretty sweet sword, though.)
