The first week of the 2015 League of Legends World Championships - the month-long World Series of eSports - has come and gone and a lot of heads are still spinning. The Group Stage, where teams are sectioned off into four pools of four teams to play round robin matches with each other, has proven to be full of surprises. The French crowd has been witness to some of the biggest upsets of the season, and some incredibly unexpected disappointments. Of course, it wouldn't be a League tourney without drama, right? Here are a sampling of the big things to come out of Week 1.
The biggest League of Legends competition of the season is Worlds, a month long series of competitions between 16 of the best League teams on the planet. The competition is at an unprecedented level during Worlds, and there are never more eyes on the eSport than in the month of October. Players set the pace of the next wave of meta's and strategies on the big stage. Often times you see the most innovative play-styles and "builds" - or item combinations - of the games echo in Ranked and Normal matches for weeks after the games. Watching these trendsetters is truly like watching the game at its most elevated. Let's take a quick tour of the who's who in the competition.
Exciting news from Team Curse! Welcome Michael!
Curse gaming welcomes Michael Kurylo, known as Challenger support Lil Bunny Fufuu, to Team Curse for the upcoming League Championship Series Super week. Kurylo will play with Team Curse in the upcoming North American Super week, with an opportunity to continue playing with the team moving forward.
“I’m really excited to be here,” Kurylo said. “I look forward to playing in the LCS with Team Curse and I look forward to working with Cop to become one of the most feared bot lanes in North America.”
Kurylo currently has three accounts in challenger, and has experience playing with some top Challenger teams. Kurylo is known as a highly skilled player and for his flexibility of supports. He has the ability to play all of the current top tier supports, as well as many others.
“Bunny is a really mechanically skilled support player and he has an immense knowledge of lane match-ups and how to play the lane,” said David Roberson, Kurylo’s new lane partner. “This is something we've been wanting as a team because we want to be able to establish early lane dominance and pressure lanes.”
Cop continued, “Once he learns about how to play in a competitive environment with this team, I think he can be a world-class support.”
